What CI Means
CI is an ice maker communication fault — the main control board has lost its signal link to the ice maker module, so ice production stops even though the rest of the refrigerator keeps running normally.
Common Causes of CI
- Wiring harness between the main board and ice maker has a loose or corroded connector
- Ice maker module itself has failed
- Main control board's communication circuit has failed
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Try a power-cycle at the breaker for the unit (not just unplugging, if it's hardwired) — communication faults sometimes clear on their own after a full reset.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- The connector run is usually inside the cabinet liner or behind the ice maker housing, not somewhere meant for repeated DIY access.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
