What E3 Means
E3 means a burner knob has been turned to off but the control system isn't confirming the gas valve actually closed — a genuine safety problem, not a convenience issue.
Common Causes of E3
- Gas valve solenoid has failed in the open position
- Valve control circuit has failed
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Turn off the gas supply to the rangetop at the shutoff valve if you can access it safely, and don't attempt to use the unit until a technician confirms the valve is closing properly.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- A gas valve that won't confirm closing is a safety-critical problem — this is never a DIY repair.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
