Grease Filters
A saturated metal grease filter restricts airflow significantly before it looks obviously dirty. This is the single most common reason a hood’s real-world performance falls off well before the motor is actually failing.
Duct Restriction
Ducting that’s crushed, too long, or has too many tight bends for the installed blower’s rated CFM will always underperform on paper specs, regardless of how healthy the motor is.
Make-Up Air Considerations
High-CFM range hoods can struggle to pull air effectively in a tightly sealed home without adequate make-up air, which can feel identical to a weak motor even though the hood itself is working exactly as designed.
When the Motor Really Is the Issue
