What F5 Means
F5 is a door switch/latch problem — the control board can't confirm the door is fully closed and locked, which is a safety interlock, not a convenience feature.
Common Causes of F5
- Door hinge or latch mechanism has worn or misaligned
- One of the (typically multiple, redundant) door safety switches has failed
- Debris is preventing the door from closing fully
🔧 One Safe Check You Can Try
Check that the door closes flush and latches audibly — a door that looks closed but doesn't fully latch is a common, sometimes owner-visible cause.
⚠ Why You Shouldn't Go Further Than That
- Microwave door interlock switches are a safety system by design, and bypassing or forcing one is a genuine radiation-exposure risk, not just a functionality issue.
Opening a panel to inspect or repair something yourself doesn't automatically cancel your manufacturer's warranty — but it can risk accidental damage, and some manufacturers do have specific service conditions. Check your product's warranty terms, or ask us, before deciding.
